VCN Telephone System

VCN has 2 phone lines 778-724-0826 – Our main phone number 604-257-3811 – Used for Outgoing calls (don’t give out) VCN uses an open source pbx telephone system, called asterisk. Any telephone call can received or sent from a X-Lite, a software phone.

 

If you don’t see the phone open, click xtenicon

 

When you open it, you’ll see the following

When a call comes in the light on line 3 with flash red and green. To answer the call, click on line 3.

To hangup click the red, Hangup button.

 

To call out, first click on a line (1-3), press the number you want to call like 96042573808, the click the green button to dial.

Here’s a list of available extension numbers

9-604-XXX-XXXX – Dial 604 phone number 9-778-XXX-XXXX – Dial 778 phone number 100 to 104 – Call another helpdesk volunteer on their extension #. You can call ext. 104 by pressing 104 on your phone. 600 – Echo test: Test your phone by listening to your echo 8500 – For Voicemail. Dial 8500, then 100 for both the box # and password. Then listen for the voice prompts (just like Telus) #XXXX – (XXXX = ext #) To transfer an incoming call to another extension. For example, there is another volunteer who know how to solve the problem at ext # 103, so you press ‘#’ then 103 to transfer the caller to extension 103

Setting Up X-lite

For the helpdesk computers only

  1. Download and Install X-lite from xten.com
  2. Configure your headset and microphone during X-Lite’s setup
  3. Setup the Following X-Lite configuration: Menu | System Settings | SIP Proxy | default Display Name: User Name & Authorization User: Password: Domain/Realm: 192.168.1.22 SIP Proxy: 192.168.1.22 Turn off Silence Supression Menu | Advanced System Settings | Audio Settings | Silence Settings | Transmit Silence: Yes
  4. Call ext. 600 to test if everything works.

Telephone Line Connection on the Server

At the back of the Asterisk server, there are  three sets of telephone jacks. The  IN jacks are located at the middle and the OUT jacks are at the top equipped with LEDs (light-emitting diode) and the bottom without LED. Connect the outgoing lines to the top set of jacks, the LEDs are lit up indicating that these jacks are working.
